Mike Hirst, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Bendigo and Adelaide Bank will be the guest speaker at a Leadership Networking Lunch on 24 July in Mildura.
Mildura Development Corporation, in partnership with the Northern Mallee Leaders Program will host the networking luncheon. La Trobe Business School staff member and Chair of the Northern Mallee Leadership Program Rebecca Wells is excited about the luncheon.
‘It’s fantastic that the NMLP were able to secure such a high profile speaker’ said Rebecca Wells.
‘The event will be an excellent opportunity to network with 2013 participants of the Northern Mallee Leadership Program, past graduates of the program, sponsors, government representatives and the wider business community who will be invited to attend’ said Rebecca Wells.
As well as sharing the Bendigo and Adelaide Banks’s long term vision, Mr Hirst’s address will focus on Corporate Social Responsibility.
He will be talking about the importance of supporting regional communities and robust partnerships that can feed into prosperity, as well as the valuable corporate social responsibility role that organisations can play in supporting their communities, who, in turn, will support their businesses.
‘Corporate Social Responsilibty is real and Bendigo & Adelaide’s community banks are leaders in how they they engage with their local communities’ said Rebecca Wells.
‘The community bank side of their business has given over one hundred million dollars back to local communities. They have local boards of volunteer directors that make decisions about local needs of the communities they operate in’ said Rebecca Wells.
Rebecca Wells was appointed the inaugural Chair of the Northern Mallee Leadership Committee in 2012 and is a graduate of the 2009 Northern Mallee Leadership Program.
Mr Hirst was appointed as Managing Director of Bendigo Bank in July 2009. Since joining the bank in 2001, Mike has held the positions of Chief Executive Retail Bank, Chief Operating Officer and Chief General Manager Group Strategy.
Mr Hirst is a career banker and has extensive experience in retail banking, treasury, funds management and financial markets. He is a past director of Colonial First State Investment Managers, Barwon Health and Austraclear Ltd, holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Melbourne University and is a Senior Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australia.
Mr Hirst is a director of the Bank’s subsidiary Rural Bank Limited, Deputy Chairman of Treasury Corporation of Victoria, and a member of the Australian Government’s Financial Sector Advisory Council.
Rebecca Wells is also a Director on the Merbein & District Community Bank.
