Nurturing the next generation through education

With her dream of creating a better future for her community, Shaelee was destined for a career in education.

With lots of nieces and nephews, and a deep connection to her small home town in the Northern Territory, she wanted to give back to the community and build up the next generation of sustainable citizens. So she went looking for the right degree to help her make that happen.

That’s how she discovered La Trobe’s Bachelor of Education (Secondary). As well as offering education subjects ranked in the top 75 in the world1, her chosen degree included everything Shaelee wanted for her chosen specialisations: mathematics and drama. Plus, as she discovered, La Trobe offers the same close-knit, community culture she grew up with.

‘La Trobe has very much prepared us for adapting and being flexible to different teaching environments,’ says Shaelee.

The diverse placements helped her build technical skills, as well as develop her confidence, so she’s ready to make a real difference in any classroom environment.

‘The placements have been the primary source of preparing me for the real world,’ she says.

‘La Trobe’s focus on practical skills really helps to prepare you as a professional in your career.’
