Semester 1 Storyteller, Peyton, reflects on the people, projects and side quests that make the Bachelor of Media and Communications more than just a degree.<\/em> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

When people think about studying Media and Communications, they usually imagine cameras, microphones, writing, interviews and maybe a little bit of editing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And yes, there is definitely all of that. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

But what I didn\u2019t expect was how many different pieces make up the experience: the late-night edits, the class jokes, the studio chaos, the feedback sessions, the new friendships and the moments where you realise you\u2019re slowly learning how the media world actually works. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

So far, my Bachelor of Media and Communications has felt less like one single subject area and more like a collection of little elements that all come together. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Media and Communications is more than cameras, scripts and edits. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is the people you learn with, the projects you build, the feedback you receive, and the confidence you slowly gain along the way. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is creative, chaotic, practical and funny- sometimes all in the same class. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And honestly, that\u2019s what makes it so memorable. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Edit <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  • Editing takes way more time than people expect<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
      \n
    • Scripting, reshooting, fixing audio and choosing clips can be a lot<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
        \n
      • But finishing an edit feels so satisfying<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

            • Class feels less stressful when you have people to laugh, create and learn with\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

              • The people around you turn long classes and group projects into actual memories<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

                Class Antics<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

                • Classes are full of unexpected side quests<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
                    \n
                  • From messing around with microphones and headsets in the studio, to filming vox pops in the Agora,\u00a0there\u2019s\u00a0always something happening\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
                      \n
                    • Somehow,\u00a0we\u2019re\u00a0learning and laughing at the same time<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

                      Industry Experience<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

                      • The degree gives us hands-on opportunities to build real media skills\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
                          \n
                        • In first year, Intro to Media gives us a taste of working in a newsroom-style environment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
                            \n
                          • Later opportunities, like Upstart, help connect what we learn in class to the media industry<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
