Work. Repeat.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Very practical. Very responsible. Very international student coded.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But deep down, I wanted the full movie version of&nbsp;uni&nbsp;life.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I wanted random friendships, campus events, late-night conversations, and the confidence to introduce myself first instead of rehearsing a sentence in my head six times before speaking.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The problem was \u2014 I&nbsp;wasn\u2019t&nbsp;naturally that person.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Back in school, I was quiet, underconfident, and honestly a little too comfortable staying unnoticed. I always wanted to be involved in things, but from a safe distance. Like emotionally supporting the event without&nbsp;actually attending&nbsp;it.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But moving to Australia unexpectedly gave me something&nbsp;I\u2019d&nbsp;never really had before:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A reset.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nobody here knew me as \u201cthe shy one,\u201d which meant I could finally stop acting like I had to stay that way.\u00a0<br>\u00a0<br>And somehow, I\u00a0actually started\u00a0trying.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Audio\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0First few weeks at\u00a0uni<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-audio\"><audio controls src=\"https:\/\/www.latrobe.edu.au\/mylatrobe\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/1st-sem-me.m4a\"><\/audio><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Audio transcript:<\/em>\u00a0<br><em>Hi, are you also\u00a0new?\u00a0<\/em>\u00a0<br><em>Oh, what are you studying? Oh, I see,\u00a0hmm\u00a0alright.\u00a0Nice,\u00a0I\u2019ll\u00a0see you later, bye.<\/em>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It started with Res events.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Which, looking back, is dangerous \u2014 because free food and \u201cjust come for a little while\u201d are genuinely gateway experiences into campus involvement.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One event became another. Oh,&nbsp;you\u2019re&nbsp;from Kenya. So cool! I really want to go on a safari there someday.&nbsp;Also wait, have you tried the kebabs in the Agora yet? You&nbsp;definitely should.&nbsp;They are&nbsp;actually so&nbsp;good and there are some more good spots to eat around&nbsp;uni.&nbsp;<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At some point, \u201cjust volunteering once\u201d turned into helping run events, speaking in front of crowds, and becoming a Senior Leader \u2014 which genuinely sounds unreal&nbsp;if you knew first-year me.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And somehow, alongside that, I also became a Storyteller.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Which&nbsp;basically means&nbsp;holding a camera, filming students, interviewing&nbsp;students around campus, and somehow acting confident while doing it.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There was a time when introducing myself to one new person felt emotionally exhausting.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now I walk up to strangers and ask them to be in one of my reels.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Honestly?
