Min and Quinn\u2019s project didn\u2019t just answer common questions \u2014 it reshaped how we think about student communications and digital onboarding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The challenge<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>New students often feel uncertain in their first weeks. Many ask:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cWhere do I find my assessments?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cHow do I submit work?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cHow do I contact my lecturer?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The LMS 101 team wanted to make these answers clear, friendly and accessible \u2014 reducing anxiety and cutting down repetitive support queries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The project<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The team produced short, engaging videos featuring Eddie, a relatable guide who introduces students to LMS essentials. The tone is warm and supportive, the pacing is mobile-friendly, and the design is future-proof, using light animation and captions instead of static user interface screenshots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The turning point<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>After the first video was shared, staff across Student Engagement and Experience immediately recognised its potential. At the same time, major projects were underway to improve enrolment and support for commencing students. LMS 101 aligned perfectly \u2014 and it scaled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What started as a single video expanded into a suite of six, with Eddie and other student characters guiding peers through key La Trobe systems, from Allocate+ to managing study using Outlook.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/playlist?list=PLDrWQxQsbBvRauhtmmFPn_FgYJD1Nbm81\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/playlist?list=PLDrWQxQsbBvRauhtmmFPn_FgYJD1Nbm81\">Ready, Set, La Trobe! \u2013 YouTube<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Impact<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Initial reach:<\/strong> 500+ views during early rollout.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Extended reach:<\/strong> Six videos now embedded across New to La Trobe and student support webpages.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Institutional change:<\/strong> The LMS 101 team is now training staff in their video style, influencing how we communicate with students. Eddie and the other characters are becoming familiar faces for new cohorts.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Student feedback:<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cThe content felt clear and less scary.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cEddie made it simple and friendly.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Lessons learned<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Small ideas can spark system-wide change.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Collaboration between students and staff strengthens outcomes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A consistent style and tone builds trust and engagement.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Advice for future applicants<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p>\u201cStart with a real student problem and a simple plan \u2014 then iterate.\u201d<\/p><cite>Quinn<\/cite><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Don\u2019t underestimate the power of storytelling.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Think about scalability \u2014 your project could become a university-wide resource.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Be prepared to share your skills; you might inspire others.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Why apply for a Student Experience Grant?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Because your idea may do more than solve a problem \u2014 it could transform how students experience university.
