Addressing this financial stress is a fundamental step toward improving your mental health and academic focus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As La Trobe Financial Counsellors, our focus is on connecting you with free resources and activities that improve your wellbeing without costing a dollar, thereby reducing financial strain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Taking control of your budget<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The link between financial worry and poor mental health is significant. Taking control of your budget is a proactive step toward better wellbeing. Here are some ways to do so:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Use the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.moneysmart.gov.au\/tools-and-resources\/calculators-and-apps\/budget-planner\">Moneysmart Budget Planner<\/a> to gain clear sight of your income and expenses. Clarity reduces the anxiety of the unknown.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ensure you are claiming all eligible <a href=\"https:\/\/my.gov.au\/en\/services\/education\/help-when-studying\/financial-help-while-studying\/payments-you-can-get-while-studying\">financial support through Centrelink<\/a> and exploring <a href=\"https:\/\/latrobe-current.custhelp.com\/app\/answers\/detail\/a_id\/175\/~\/scholarships\">scholarships and bursaries at La Trobe University<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If debt or bills are causing distress, access the free, confidential support of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latrobe.edu.au\/students\/support\/wellbeing\/services\/financial-counselling\">Financial Counsellor<\/a> at La Trobe.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Budget-friendly ways to manage your wellbeing<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Physical activity and social connection are vital for wellbeing and are entirely achievable without expenditure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Join <a href=\"https:\/\/www.parkrun.com.au\/\">Parkrun<\/a>, a free, community-led, weekly 5km run or walk. It is an excellent way to boost fitness and connect with your local community at no cost.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Take advantage of Australia&#8217;s public parks, gardens, and walking trails. Spending time in green spaces is proven to reduce psychological stress.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Engage with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latrobestudentassociation.com.au\/\">La Trobe Student Association (LTSA)<\/a> where you can access free groceries through the student pantry &amp; more! It&#8217;s free to join and to start enjoying the benefits.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.latrobe.edu.au\/students\/getting-started\/campus-life\/clubs-and-societies\">Clubs and societies<\/a> are often free or very low-cost and provide an essential opportunity to build supportive social networks outside of the financial stress of the classroom.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Free tools available 24\/7<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Accessible, no-cost tools are available 24\/7 to help you manage immediate psychological distress and build resilience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Use the free, Australian-developed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smilingmind.com.au\/smiling-mind-app\/\">Smiling Mind<\/a> app for guided meditation and mindfulness exercises.
