One of the support services you may wish to access is <a href=\"https:\/\/latrobe-current.custhelp.com\/app\/answers\/detail\/a_id\/1574\">Advocacy<\/a>. Advocacy is free, independent from the University, and available to all students, no matter where you are located. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>What is an Advocate?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An Advocate is a support person who will empower you to work with La Trobe to find a solution to a problem or concern. Student Advocates provide impartial support as they are independent from the University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Why might I want to talk to an Advocate?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Advocates will listen to you with no judgement, be respectful, maintain privacy and explain the University\u2019s rules and processes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They can aid with administrative issues, such as complaints or any issues within the University, in a confidential, safe setting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>What support can Advocates provide?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are a range of things that the Advocates can support you with, and there are some things they can\u2019t do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"has-fixed-layout\"><thead><tr><th>Can:<\/th><th>Can&#8217;t:<\/th><\/tr><\/thead><tbody><tr><td>Assist and provide advice on a range of topics including (e.g. academic progress, academic integrity, appeals, formal complaints and contacting the University Ombudsman)<\/td><td>Decide the outcome of a university decision<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Help you prepare information for written submissions, letters and forms (e.g. academic progress including the Show Cause submission form, formal complaints, Remission of Debt applications and<br>Special Consideration applications)<\/td><td>Write the submissions\/letters for you<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Provide advice about the review and re-marking of assessments application process<\/td><td>Re-mark the assessments<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Help you understand your situation (e.g. academic integrity and general misconduct)<\/td><td>Decide the outcome<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Advise you regarding the Refunds and Remission of Debt process, including support to prepare your applications<\/td><td>Write a Refund or Remission of Debt application for you or provide a refund<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Discuss enrolment and administration issues (the Advocates don&#8217;t provide the same service as La Trobe&#8217;s teams)<\/td><td>Enrol for you<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Discuss Disability and learning access issues<\/td><td>Develop a Learning Access Plan<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Discuss placement issues<\/td><td>Arrange your placement<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Discuss your options<\/td><td>Make decisions for you<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Help you to understand University policy and procedures<\/td><td>Amend or change University policy (however they may provide feedback to the University when policy is being reviewed)<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>How can I access support from Advocacy?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-bottom:20px\">Student Advocates are available to assist students from all campuses.
