Current forecasts indicate that Albury-Wodonga, Bendigo, Mildura and Shepparton may experience very high daytime temperatures, with conditions potentially reaching mid 40\u2019s in some locations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Heatwave conditions can cause health issues which can affect anyone. Older people, people with pre-existing medical conditions, pregnant women, young children and babies are most at risk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Campus closure updates<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Albury-Wodonga<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The following Albury-Wodonga campus buildings will be <strong>closed from Monday 26 January to Friday 30 January<\/strong> due to extreme heat: AW1 (the Library), AW3 and AW4. Library support will still be available online and some other buildings on campus such as Students Commons (next to La Moka) or the foyer of AW6 will be open.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to survive the heat<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Drink plenty of water.<\/strong>&nbsp;Always take a bottle of water with you.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Hot cars kill.<\/strong>&nbsp;Never leave kids, adults or pets in cars. The temperature inside a parked car can double within minutes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Keep cool.<\/strong>&nbsp;Seek out air-conditioned buildings, draw your blinds, use a fan, take cool showers and dress in light and loose clothing made from natural fabrics.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Plan ahead.<\/strong>&nbsp;Schedule activities in the coolest part of the day and avoid exercising in the heat. If you must go out, wear a hat and sunscreen and take a bottle of water with you.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Check on others.<\/strong>&nbsp;Look after those most at risk in the heat \u2013 your neighbour living alone, older people, children and babies, people with a medical condition and don\u2019t forget your pets.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Call NURSE-ON-CALL<\/strong>&nbsp;on 1300 606 024 or see your doctor if you are unwell.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>In an emergency<\/strong>, call Triple Zero (000).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Bushfire risk<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As hot and dry conditions persist, the risk of bushfires remains elevated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anyone located in or near bushfire-prone areas (including bushland, grassland or rural locations) should closely follow advice from emergency services and be prepared to leave early, well before conditions deteriorate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">More information can be found at:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bom.gov.au\/australia\/heatwave\/\">Bureau of Meteorology Heatwave Service<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/emergency.vic.gov.au\/respond\/\">VicEmergency<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au\/campaigns\/survive-the-heat\">Survive the Heat<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This page may be updated as more information becomes available.
