If you earn more than this, you will pay tax and the amount will depend on what you earn (and whether you claim the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ato.gov.au\/individuals-and-families\/jobs-and-employment-types\/tax-free-threshold\/how-to-claim-the-tax-free-threshold#ato-Whatisthetaxfreethreshold\">tax-free threshold<\/a>). Check the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ato.gov.au\/Rates\/Individual-income-tax-rates\/?page=1#Residents\">tax rates<\/a> on the Australian Taxation Office website for more info.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Make sure you are ready to lodge your tax return after the end of the financial year, 30 June. If you are eligible for a tax refund, this will ensure you get your money sooner &#8211; think of it as potential bonus savings!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size\">When can I lodge my tax return?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can complete your tax return from July to 31 October. Check out your MyGov account or visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ato.gov.au\/\">Australian Taxation Office<\/a> for more information on tax deadlines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size\">How can I lodge my tax return?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can lodge your tax return easily online via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ato.gov.au\/Individuals\/Your-tax-return\/How-to-lodge-your-tax-return\/Lodge-your-tax-return-online-with-myTax\/\">myTax<\/a>, but if it is more complicated and you are not sure what you can claim, it might be worth hiring a tax accountant. Check the cost first and decide if it is worth it for you. A lot of information on income <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ato.gov.au\/Individuals\/myTax\/2022\/Income\/\">declarations<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ato.gov.au\/Individuals\/myTax\/2022\/Deductions\/\">eligible deductions<\/a> is available on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ato.gov.au\/\">Australian Taxation Office website<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size\">Tax Help Program<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lodging a tax return can sound daunting &#8211; especially if it&#8217;s your first time. Don\u2019t procrastinate, there is help available from the Australian Tax Office through their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ato.gov.au\/individuals-and-families\/your-tax-return\/help-and-support-to-lodge-your-tax-return\/tax-help-program\">Tax Help program<\/a> if you earn less than $70,000 a year and meet eligibility requirements<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are eligible for the Tax Help program you will need to make an appointment and also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ato.gov.au\/General\/Online-services\/Create-your-myGov-account-and-link-it-to-the-ATO\/\">create a MyGov account and link it to the ATO<\/a>. A lot of information is entered directly into your MyGov account which makes it easier for you to complete your tax return.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are not eligible for Tax Help you may qualify for assistance from a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ato.gov.au\/General\/Gen\/National-Tax-Clinic-program\/\">National Tax Clinic program.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size\">International Students<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>International Students are eligible to claim a full tax return on earnings up to $18,200 if considered a resident for tax purposes i.e. continuously residing in Australia 6 months or more.
