{"id":24071,"date":"2025-09-03T16:21:41","date_gmt":"2025-09-03T06:21:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.latrobe.edu.au\/mylatrobe\/?p=24071"},"modified":"2025-09-04T12:19:21","modified_gmt":"2025-09-04T02:19:21","slug":"five-types-of-cover-letters-thatll-land-you-firmly-in-the-no-pile","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.latrobe.edu.au\/mylatrobe\/five-types-of-cover-letters-thatll-land-you-firmly-in-the-no-pile\/","title":{"rendered":"Five types of cover letters that&#8217;ll land you firmly in the &#8216;no&#8217; pile"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Your cover letter is most often the first document that an employer reads so it may determine whether your application reaches the \u2018yes\u2019 or \u2018no\u2019 pile.&nbsp; But don\u2019t make these mistakes which may mean yours fails to impress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. <strong>The \u2018cut and paste\u2019 letter<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u2018I have a great interest in working at (insert company name) in the role of (insert job title here)\u2019. <\/em>&nbsp;Tailor your letter each time so that you ensure you\u2019re addressing individual criteria for that particular opportunity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. The \u2018self-assessment\u2019 letter<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u2018I would be perfectly suited to the role..my experience makes me ideal\u2019.&nbsp; <\/em>Let the employer be the judge!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. The \u2018skills summary\u2019 letter<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2019I <em>am a team player, great communicator, am reliable and honest..<\/em>\u2019 Don\u2019t simply state your skills\/attributes, provide examples.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. The \u2018me\u2019 letter<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018<em>This role will give me the chance to advance my career and develop my skills\u2026<\/em>\u2019 Focus instead on what you bring to the role and how your skills align.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And last but not least\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5.
