Final assignment season is here \u2013 and yes, it can be intense. But don\u2019t worry, we\u2019ve got your back. Here are 10 smart, student-tested ways to tackle your next assessment and come out on top.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Know what\u2019s expected<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Start with the subject outline <\/a>provided by your tutor. Check due dates, penalties, word counts and required readings. Review the marking criteria so you know exactly what\u2019s being assessed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Focus on key subjects<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Think about your goals and where each subject sits. Is one assignment worth more? Do you need to boost a particular grade? Prioritise accordingly and remember that the earlier you start, the smoother it\u2019ll be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Balance study and rest<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Schedule study blocks and downtime. Let friends and family know your deadlines so they can support you. Check out these time<\/a> management tip<\/a>s<\/a> and remember to make time for the things that bring you joy as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. Schedule each task<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Use the Assessment Planner<\/a> to create a timeline for your assignments. Add your own start date and get a friend to be your \u201cdeadline motivator\u201d \u2013 someone who\u2019ll check in and keep you accountable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5. Check the criteria<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Find the marking guide on the LMS<\/a>. Make sure you\u2019re answering the question \u2013 underline key words and keep checking back as you write. A brilliant essay that misses the point still won\u2019t score well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

6. Plan before you write<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Outline your main points, evidence and referencing style. Need help? See what study support<\/a> is available via the Library to help guide you through it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

7. Reference as you go<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Seriously \u2013 don\u2019t leave referencing to the end. It takes longer than you think to format citations properly. Paraphrase well, cite your sources and give yourself time to get it right. If you need help, check out the Library’s referencing guide<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

8. Stick to the word count<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Too short or too long? You can lose marks either way. Most assignments allow a 10% buffer \u2013 so a 1,000-word limit means you can go up to 1,100.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

9. Proof it properly<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Take a break before reviewing. Read it aloud or ask someone to check for typos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

10. Submit early<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Don\u2019t risk last-minute tech issues. Submit with time to spare. If something\u2019s going on, contact your subject coordinator before the deadline \u2013 not after.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
