Hi everyone, my name is Kelsey and I am the new student intern here at the Wise ASSC blog! I can’t wait to get started and share my experiences.
I am currently completing my third and final year of a Bachelor of Business, majoring in Human Resource Management, and I have absolutely loved my course so far!
My road to university was a bit different than most; after applying for my course, I realised that I was actually a little unsure about what I wanted to study and where I wanted my life to go. To give myself some time to think, I deferred and took 2 gap years, where I moved to the UK to work full time and travel. It was an incredible experience that allowed me to get some perspective in life, and it helped me realise that life is what you make of it! I recognised that if I was unhappy with my degree, I could change it, or take another break. Since starting at La Trobe, it has been amazing to see how much support is available to students to help us make decisions that are the best for us.
Getting back into the studying mindset was pretty tricky after two years away, and figuring out how to navigate choosing subjects, creating timetables and finding classrooms started to feel a little overwhelming. But living in on-campus accommodation, I was able to make fantastic friends that helped me to adjust, and made me aware that everyone was in the same boat. We are all experiencing something new, and the best way to get through it is to support and uplift each other! Once you realise this, all the challenges that uni life throws at you become manageable and you can start enjoying the experience, just like I did!
While I have learned many lessons from my time at university, the most important one that I think everyone should know is don’t be afraid to ask for help! Whether you’re a first-year student or in your final year, there are so many ways to find support through friends, tutors/ lecturers, and La Trobe services.
It’s sad to think that my time at La Trobe will be coming to an end soon, but I know I’ve been well prepared for whatever the future holds! Welcome back to studying, I hope you have a great Semester!
