What’s changed for students due to the lockdown

As Victorians, we all (unfortunately) know the drill of lockdown by now. This ‘Circuit Breaker’ lockdown will apply until at least 11.59pm on Thursday 10 June.

We know to check the exposure sites, and to get tested and isolate if we’re feeling unwell. The DHHS website, as always, has all most up-to-date information. Checking your La Trobe email address is still the best way to find the University’s most recent updates.

Although Week 12 classed have wrapped up, exams and final assessments are still on the horizon for many students.

So, MyLaTrobe has put together this list of changes to study and campus you’ll need to know about during the lockdown. A full list of updates can be found on La Trobe’s COVID-19 Student FAQs page.

What’s happening with exams?

No, they’re not cancelled, and if this changes you’ll be contacted via email or SMS, so make sure your details are updated in StudentOnline.

There are no changes to the timetable for online exams. Assessments will still run at their scheduled time.

All students whose exams have been changed will receive an email on 28/05/2021 outlining the changes to their exams. Find out more about changes to the Semester 1 exam timetable here.

Most face-to-face exams are still running however they have been rescheduled to a later date. Please read the updated timetable carefully to know when your exam is scheduled.

A small number of face-to-face exams will be moved online or removed from the timetable completely. If this is the case, your subject coordinator will be in touch with more details. Please also check the LMS for updates.

See all the changes on the COVID-19 Assessments Update page.

I’m meant to be starting placement…

Nursing and allied health placements and final year pre-service early childhood and school teaching placements are permitted by Government to continue. The placement team will contact you directly if your placement arrangements need to change. If you’re in self-isolation due to a public health order, contact the placement team. Find more info in the COVID FAQs.

I can’t study or take my online exam at home, where can I go?

We encourage you to study and take your online exams at home, but if you can’t, there are certain spaces available on campus. All regional campus libraries will remain open as study spaces with limited access. Current opening hours will remain as scheduled. See the full list of library spaces here. If you are coming onto campus, you’ll need to abide by Government directions and ensure you’re being COVID-Safe (don’t forget your mask, and check-in using the QR code).

Are Library and ASK La Trobe services still running?

There will be no face-to-face services on our Victorian campuses during lockdown, but all virtual services will continue. These can be accessed online:

Face-to-face ASK La Trobe services are expected to re-open on Monday 7 June (but keep an eye on DHHS upates and your student email).

Is there support available?

This is a very uncertain time for everyone. We want you to know that all of our Student Wellbeing Services are currently open and available to support you during the current lockdown. This includes our Wellbeing Check-In service, for students who may not need therapeutic counselling but might just need a check-in, are in quarantine/isolation or just need some additional support.

See our full up-to-date list of La Trobe’s support services for students and how to access them online.

If you live on campus and are unsure about which facilities or services you can access, please contact the Living at LaTrobe team.
