The Victorian Government has this afternoon announced that new, state-wide COVID-19 restrictions will commence from 11.59pm tonight, Friday 12 February until 11.59pm Wednesday 17 February.
The core of this requirement is that Victorians cannot travel more than 5km from home, and may only leave home for a limited number of reasons, including:
- Shopping for necessary goods and services (one person per household, once per day, a support person can accompany if required)
- Caregiving or compassionate reasons
- Essential work or permitted education (this does not currently include higher education – see below for more detail)
- Exercise (can leave your house for two hours of exercise)
As part of these restrictions, higher education facilities are required to close.
As a result, La Trobe campuses and all services and teaching will be delivered remotely while these restrictions remain in place.
The University will continue to provide safe and secure accommodation on campus for students who require it.
We are aware that a number of students were planning to return to accommodation this weekend.
If you have not set off yet, we advise that you delay your departure until after Thursday. However, if for exceptional reasons you are unable to delay your arrival, you can check in and will be supported by the Accommodation services team.
A separate message to all residential students has been sent.
