What is University Mental Health Day?

University Mental Health Day is on the 7th May and is a chance to bring attention to the health and wellbeing of all staff and students. This day helps to bring light to mental health issues and bring people together to work on their mental wellbeing so they can support themselves and others.

What is La Trobe planning for University Mental Health Day?

Below are links to each campus’s plans for university Mental Health Day, celebrated across the next few weeks. Check out what’s happening on your campus!

Mental health for students.

We know that at this point in the semester, studying and university in general can become stressful. Assessments and exams are underway and can be overwhelming, for students living on campus or out of home you might also find yourself feeling homesick or isolated. That’s why it’s important to recognise when you might benefit from seeking support.

Signs your mental health might currently be impacted by stress.

  • Reduced concentration
  • Mood swings
  • Feeling down for no reason
  • Trouble sleeping or excessive sleeping.
  • Lack of interest in hobbies or recreational activities
  • Shutting yourself in and not interacting with loved ones

What are some ways that you can get back on track with schooling and lower levels of stress?

  • Make sure you are getting healthy levels of sleep.
  • Plan out your assignments on a calendar to keep track of your due dates.
  • Take breaks to keep your mind fresh.
  • If feeling homesick call your loved ones or take part in an activity or eat a snack that reminds you of home

If your mental health is worsening and you aren’t sure what to do, contact La Trobe counselling services, you don’t need to go through this stressful time alone. At La Trobe we have a range of services to help your wellbeing.
