University Emergency and Safety Services

Here at la Trobe, we are committed to providing a safe and secure environment for students and staff whilst on campus.

For those of you who are just starting at La Trobe (or those who need a refresher!), we’ve compiled a definitive list of safety services available to you across our campuses.

Bookmark this article for easy access in case you’re studying late in the library, need an escort to your car, or need to report an incident. We also offer some great support services for you to contact if you just need some advice, someone to talk to, or external referrals within the community.

24/7 Security – (03) 9479 2222

We provide a 24/7 Security service at La Trobe University across all campuses and we encourage all students to enter our security number 9479 2222 into their phone at the beginning of the year.

Uni-Safe Service

Available at the Melbourne (Bundoora), Bendigo and Albury-Wodonga campus, Uni-Safe is available to escort students after dark between buildings, campus car parks and a few local transport points.

Call (03) 9479 2222 to request the Uni-safe Service.

The Night Glider Bus

The Glider Bus service provides free transport around the Melbourne (Bundoora) Campus during the night. There is also a live GPS tracker for the bus, so you can tell when it’s nearby.

  • Runs from 6pm (non-daylight savings) or 7pm (daylight savings) until 6am.
  • Available every day during the University semester and some public holidays

Safer Community

Previously known as Speak Up, Safer Community is a free, confidential support service you can contact if you experience or witness concerning, threatening, inappropriate or uncomfortable behaviour. This behaviour can occur on-campus and off-campus, such as on public transport or in the home.

Safer Community provides expert advice and information. They also offer you options and referrals to help resolve your concerns to keep you and other safe.

Out-of-Hours Crisis Line

Use this number for out-of-hours emergency mental health and wellbeing support.

Call 1300 146 307 or text 0488 884 100. Available 5.00 pm–9.00 am weekdays, and 24-hours on weekends and public holidays.
