Melbourne / Three ways to keep your bike safe on campus

Riding in to Campus? It’s important you keep your bike safe while you’re studying, so here are a few tips to make sure your bike is secure and you’ve got a ride home.

This follows an increase in the number of bicycle thefts at the Bundoora Campus, which typically relates to lower value bicycles that are either not secured, or secured via a less sturdy lock. Rest assured, our Security team are undertaking more physical patrols and CCTV monitoring in and around areas where bicycles are parked, and the University continues to liaise with Victoria Police on this issue.

So, here are three tips you can follow to help keep your bike safe:

  1. Park in one of the secure CycleSmart Centres – they’re secure and also include showers and change areas.
  2. Use a quality, solid lock such as a steel D-lock or U-lock.
  3. Lock up your wheels, particularly if they have a quick-release mechanism.

And don’t forget you can come along to a free Biker’s Brekkie when you ride into campus! Check out La Trobe’s Transport Central for more cycling tips and information.
