The Library is your new best friend: Top five things to check out during orientation

Welcome new students! In case you didn’t know already, the Library is your best friend now – time to break the news to your old best friend.

The Library is the central hub of La Trobe University campuses – a place to connect with others, study individually, grab a coffee, maybe even loan a book – you name it.

But did you also know the Library offers a range of study support? We’re here to help you get a head start this year, and we’ll stay by your side for as long as you need us.

Told you, the Library is your best friend now.

Here are the top five things to check out at the Library during orientation.

1. Classes and workshops

We offer a huge range of classes and workshops that will give you the tips and skills you need to succeed. What better way to start the semester!

We’ve got sessions running throughout this week and orientation. Make sure you book your spot through the Orientation Planner

What we’re offering:

  • Welcome to the Library
  •  Returning to Study
  • One Step Ahead
  • Academic Writing for postgrads
  •  Tips and Tricks for Learning Online

2. Our stall at the Welcome Festival

Do you have a few burning questions for us?

Or maybe you didn’t realise the Library offers more than just books. Hint: it’s much more!

Visit our stall at the Welcome Festival on Tuesday 12 July and our friendly staff can give you all the information you need (you can also score yourself some Library merch while you’re there).

Peer Learning Advisors (PLAs) will be there too, ready to answer your questions. PLAs are experienced students specially trained to help others with study and assessments.

3. Campus tours

Join one of the tours at your campus and discover your library facilities. Some of our facilities include:

  • Spaces for group and individual study
  •  Online Learning Zone (Bundoora) for your lectures and online classes – you’ll find PCs equipped with webcams and study spaces for your own device.
  •  Printing, copying and scanning
  •  Wifi access
  •  Desktop computers
  •  Very popular egg chairs (Bundoora)

And more…

Visit our website for more information on Library facilities.

4. Online University Reading List system – for free textbooks and other subject readings

For most subjects, textbooks and other readings are available for free online in the University Reading List system.

For easy access to your readings, go to readinglists.latrobe.edu.au and search by your subject code or name.

5. FAQs

Some of those burning questions might already have been answered in our FAQs. Bookmark these – you’ll need them again.

If you can’t find what you’re looking for, we’re always happy to answer your questions in person or online.

Find us in each campus library Monday to Friday 10 am – 4 pm. Or contact us online through chat, phone and email Monday to Friday 9 am – 6 pm and Saturday & Sunday 11 am – 4 pm.
