It’s hard not to feel at least a little anxious at the moment: we’re spending lots of time by ourselves, the news is distressing and we’re being asked to quickly adapt to working from home.
La Trobe’s Counselling team want to give the Uni’s students and staff an opportunity to unwind during the working week.
Beginning this Thursday, 23 April, they’ll host a weekly online meditation and relaxation session via Zoom.
Each sessions will go for about 45 minutes, but will be separated into two parts for those who only have a few minutes to spare.
The first 10-15 minutes will be a super simple but effective breathing technique which can be used anytime and anywhere.
Those who can stay for the full session with then take part in a 20 to 30-minute whole-body-mindedness exercise.
When these sessions ran last year, students reported clearer thinking, feeling more settled and confident, higher levels of acceptance and openness, a decrease in anxiety and feeling like they had a full night’s sleep. High praise indeed!
