New South Wales announced today that it will temporarily close its border with Victoria effective from 12.01am Wednesday 8 July.
The NSW Government has announced that provisions will be in place for residents of border regions, such as Albury-Wodonga, and we are working to determine what this means for our staff and students in border regions across Victoria.
If you’re a La Trobe student in the border regions currently on placement, or with an upcoming placement, it’s important to note that special provisions will be in place for border communities, such as Albury-Wodonga. We have been advised that online permits will be available through Service NSW from tomorrow to accommodate essential travel. Students currently undertaking placements or about to commence, can contact their subject coordinator for any issues arising from the border closures.
We encourage our students based in New South Wales to study at home, where possible, while the border closure is in effect. We will continue to provide additional advice and updates for our students in the border regions in the coming weeks.
More information on how the New South Wales border closures will be implemented will be posted on the New South Wales COVID-19 website in due course and we will continue to provide updates as required. If you are in Victoria we also recommend you follow the advice of the Department of Health and Human Services.
