You can access your La Trobe emails anywhere using Microsoft Outlook.

A key security feature of Microsoft Outlook is enhanced authentication for email.
Removal of basic authentication:
Microsoft is removing the ability to use basic authentication for email (using only one authentication, like a password to verify your identity). From Wednesday 9th of February 2022, basic authentication for email will be phased out at La Trobe.
This is good news as it will make your La Trobe email more secure.
This change will impact some students who have configured their email application to receive their emails using POP or IMAP. If this is you, you will need to update how you access your email from 9 February – otherwise your emails won’t be accessible.

Q: I use the Apple mail app to access my emails, can I still use this?
A: Because Microsoft does not guarantee that you will be able to access your Office 365 email via the default mail client on your Apple device, we recommend you use the official Microsoft Outlook app. Find information about using the Microsoft Outlook app on our website.
Q: How do I know how my email is configured or if I am using ‘basic authentication’?
A: You can confirm how your email app is currently configured by going into the Account Settings of your mail app.
Q: How do I know if this change will impact me and I need to take action?
A: If you have been identified as being impacted, you will receive an email from La Trobe Information Services advising you to update the way you access your email account.
Q: Will this impact how I sync my calendars?
A: Yes, if your mail service provider (i.e., Gmail) uses IMAP and/or POP email sync will stop. You can continue to access your calendar via the Microsoft Outlook app.
Q: Will I lose all my emails setting up a new account?
It is recommended that you save important information from your emails before 9th February 2022.
