Shine a Light on NF

On Wednesday 17 May 2023, La Trobe is lighting up Science Drive at our Melbourne (Bundoora) campus as part of the Shine a Light on NF campaign.

Shine a Light is an initiative that brings Neurofibromatosis (NF) out of the shadows and into the community as part of NF Awareness Month in May.

NF is a condition that causes tumours to form on nerves in the body. Unpredictable and progressive, it can be both visible and invisible. To learn more and find out what you can do to support, visit the Children’s Tumour Foundation website.

By lighting up buildings, monuments and landmarks blue and green on May 17, NF is put in the national spotlight, sparking conversations around the country about a condition that has been invisible for far too long.

La Trobe University is proud to join with locations across Australia to raise awareness about neurofibromatosis. By ‘shining a light’ on neurofibromatosis, we can help to increase knowledge and understanding of the experience of people who live with neurofibromatosis and the importance of improving diagnosis and treatment to support them to live life to the full.

Professor John Dewar AO, Vice-Chancellor

2023 will be the third year that Australia will be joining this global movement led by the Children’s Tumor Foundation in the US and supported by NF organisations in 12 countries helping to light up more than 500 locations.
