NORTH Link Placement Student of the Year – Jessica O’Donnell

Final year graphic design student Jess O’Donnell was named 2018 ‘Placement Student of the Year’ at the Northern Business Achievement Awards breakfast late last year.

Jess secured her moment in the spotlight through the NORTH Link Industry Student Placement Program – a program managed by NORTH Link and supported by La Trobe University’s Career Ready Program. Her award was sponsored by Unitemps.

Jess’s project was for, as it turned out, the NBAA ‘Placement Host of the Year’Brite Services. Her mission was to re-design the Brite logo.

Jess explained she drew on her graphic design and creativity skills, and use of design software to capture the essence of what her client wanted to communicate to their audience. The logo was held under close wraps before the NBAA ceremony, but is now being publicly used.

As a country student, Jess said her placement has had a lasting impact. She revealed it had given her the insight and confidence to take her next step ahead of graduating.

Being chosen as the winning logo for Brite was fantastic news. I feel like a real designer now. It’s great for my resume, but most of all I’m thrilled that I’ve been able to contribute to an organisation like Brite. It’s a very good feeling. Now I’m looking forward to working as a full-time designer.”
