Melbourne / Volunteer at Open Day and get a voucher and some swag

With Open Day fast approaching, we’ve decided to reach out to our current students to see if you’d like to volunteer.

Open Day at our Melbourne Campus this year is on Sunday 4 August running from 10am – 4pm.

Every year, the success of Open Day is dependent on volunteers to assist with the functioning and level of engagement our visitors receive. Open Day is a fantastic opportunity for you to be involved, gaining valuable experience, and the opportunity to make lasting friendships.

There’s a few other perks to volunteering too…

The opportunity to apply to be a Student Ambassador.

You’ll see the current student ambassadors in action on the day, and you may have seen them around campus, conducting tours and talking to future students. This is a paid role within the recruitment team, looking at all things future students.

A token of appreciation

This comes in the form of a voucher, (we know we can’t run this day without volunteers), as well a certificate of appreciation, thanking you for all your hard work throughout the day!

Free La Trobe Swag

This includes an official La Trobe t-shirt, as well as a lanyard for you to keep after the conclusion of Open Day.

Invaluable Work Experience

You’ll gain skills and experience working at Open Day, things that look great on a resume. Make sure to add La Trobe Open Day 2019 Volunteer to your resume after the day! Lunch and refreshments are on us during Open Day, another perk of being a volunteer, and another way for us to say thanks!

I bet you’re wondering what you could be doing on the day…

The roles on the day are varied and very much self-managed. The different roles could include:

  • Assisting academics at expo stands and in presentations
  • Assisting in welcoming visitors to the University, through the manning of Welcome Tents
  • Helping lost visitors navigate their way around campus
  • Taking groups to presentation venues
  • Taking groups between venues and Union Hall
  • Meet & greet directional staff at all venues
  • Floating staff to look after collateral/traffic management
  • Assistance at the end of the day to pack down and reinstate spaces

So you’re interested in volunteering… That’s great to hear! We look forward to having you on board! There’s just a few things we need you to do:

Register by completing this survey:

It helps us allocate where you’ll be most appreciated and valuable on Open Day. Make sure you tick all boxes that apply to you!

If you don’t already have one, Apply for a Working with Children’s Check. Have a look at this link:

As an Open Day Volunteer, you’ll be eligible to apply for a ‘Volunteer’ WWCC, which is free. If you’re keen to volunteer, we suggest getting on to this sooner rather than later as it can take a little bit of time to process your application. We require your Working with Children Check (WWCC) number prior to 22 July.

Keep an eye on your emails.

This is how you’ll keep up to date with the latest Open Day news. This will include training for the day, where to get your uniform and lanyard for the day, and all up to date information about allocations and important information for the day. Thanks for your interest and registering, and we’ll be in touch shortly with more details, in the lead up to Open Day 2019.
