La Trobe rolls out new Masters degrees combining research and coursework

Ever thought about continuing your studies with a research degree? You now have more options to do your own research under supervision and build a career tackling global research challenges.

What do these options look like?

La Trobe is now rolling out a new suite of Masters degrees integrated with our Honours and Postgraduate Coursework programs which blend coursework and research. They are the perfect opportunity to get a globally recognised Masters by research degree – while testing out whether doctoral research is for you.

The Master of Science and Master of Arts are the first two courses of the new suite – the perfect springboard into research. If you are taking a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) or Bachelor of Science (Honours) you will be able to transfer into these new degrees, apply for a Master by research scholarship and graduate with a globally recognised research qualification.

What will the new courses mean for you?

  • You can sharpen up your research skills by completing a Masters degree before deciding whether a doctoral degree is right for you
  • You can apply for a dedicated Masters by research scholarship, which provides both a stipend and full tuition fee scholarship
  • You will complete with a locally and globally recognised Masters by research qualification
  • More options – you can consider both the Masters or a doctorate and choose the path that best serves your career plans and explorations. You will still have the option of direct entry from Honours – if you feel you are ready for doctoral research.
