Are you in need of a mentor who you can bounce ideas off of and receive support from? Join our next round of the Industry Mentoring program!
The next round of La Trobe’s Industry Mentoring program will begin on Monday 21 November, but it’s not too late to register to be matched to an experienced industry mentor.
The Industry Mentoring program runs for 12 weeks and is available for all current La Trobe students, where you will be matched with a mentor who can assist you to develop and meet your career goals.
In this flexible program, you will catch up with your mentor one-to-one (in person or online) and while we suggest you meet 3 to 4 times over the course of the program and connect by email/phone in between, it is up to you and your mentor to decide what works for both of you.
Your mentor can assist you to:
- Connect with your industry and expand your professional network
- Develop confidence in communicating with industry professionals
- Understand and map your future career progression
- Seek out professional development opportunities
- Discover further professional opportunities
We asked our mentees from our August round, “Would you recommend the industry mentoring program to other students?”
Below are a few of their responses.
“Absolutely yes – especially for those who are still unsure of their career direction. The program is a great idea to push students to be involved and gain more insights from their favourite industries.”
“Yes, because its an extremely worthwhile endeavour learning about the workplace and possible out of the box directions. My mentor was really helpful, especially because I am not a naturally outspoken person. He helped me to come out of my shell.”
“International students who want to enter the Australian job market need to understand how the job entry works and how to approach a particular area of interest – because in India, companies come to the college for placements. In Australia, we need to understand how to approach a company of interest for gaining entry into the industry. Having a mentor really helped me understand the requirements.”
The Employability team will be in touch to let you know what you need to do next to ensure you are matched with an industry mentor in the November round.
Participation in the Industry Mentoring program is recognised as a Practical Experience for the Career Ready Advantage Awards.
