SUMMARY:See La Trobe innovation in action: Biosensors
DESCRIPTION:La Trobe students are invited to Innovation Series: Biosensors in Action\, a free\, in-person event on Wednesday 28 October showcasing how La Trobe researchers are working with industry and government partners to translate biosensor research into real-world applications. \n\n\n\nHeld at the Eagleworks Innovation Centre\, this is an opportunity to discover emerging biosensor technologies and explore their real-world impact across healthcare\, diagnostics and public safety. \n\n\n\nDetails \n\n\n\nEvent: Innovation Series: Biosensors in ActionDate: Wednesday 28 OctoberTime: 5pm to 7:30pmLocation: Digital Innovation Hub. L2 Eagleworks Innovation Centre\, La Trobe Melbourne (Bundoora) Campus. Map Ref: 8GFormat: In personCost: Free \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHow can a portable sensor help detect drugs at the roadside? Could new imaging technology support faster and more accurate cancer diagnosis? And what does it take to move a biosensor from the lab into large-scale production? \n\n\n\nHear from La Trobe researchers and industry collaborators from Victoria Police\, Triton Biosensors\, AlleSense\, the BEST Centre and MOBIUS\, as they explore innovations spanning roadside drug detection\, cancer diagnostics and point-of-use blood testing. \n\n\n\nSpeakers will share the science behind these technologies and the journey from research to real-world impact – including clinical validation\, commercialisation\, scalable manufacturing and large-scale production. \n\n\n\nPresentations will be followed by an interactive panel discussion and audience Q&A\, giving attendees the opportunity to hear directly from researchers\, innovators and industry leaders working at the forefront of biosensor technology. \n\n\n\nFeatured speakers include: \n\n\n\n\nDr Kaye Ballantyne\, Chief Forensic Scientist\, Victoria Police \n\n\n\nHansani Maussawa\, Graduate Researcher\, La Trobe University\n\n\n\nDr Ranja Salvamoser\, CEO\, AlleSense\n\n\n\nProfessor Brian Abbey\, Founder and CTO\, AlleSense\n\n\n\nLuke Cossins\, Managing Director\, Triton Biosensors\n\n\n\nDr Saimon Moraes Silva\, Director\, Biomolecular Engineering\, Sensing and Technologies (BEST) Centre.\n\n\n\n\nPanel Session \n\n\n\n\nHosted byProfessor Kevin Plaxco\, Nutromics’ Biosensor Advisory Board\, with opportunities for audience Q&A.

SUMMARY:Birder early access – Nangak Tamboree Wildlife Sanctuary
DESCRIPTION:Are you a keen birder who has always wanted access to the Sanctuary at sunrise?\nAttendees will be given early access to the Wildlife Sanctuary in exchange for uploading their sightings to eBird or iNaturalist. Being here before our usual opening hours will give you the chance to spot some of the less commonly seen species that live here. Find out what species have been spotted in the Sanctuary recently via our hotspot listing on eBird. \nNote: This survey is un-guided. If you are a beginner\, we recommend joining one of our guided “Nerdy for Birdies” or “Breakfast with the Birds” events. \nIf you are part of a local birding group\, regular access in exchange for survey data may be a possibility. Contact LTWSeducation@latrobe.edu.au for more information.

SUMMARY:Frog Census – Nangak Tamboree Wildlife Sanctuary
DESCRIPTION:Come and learn all about the frogs that call the Sanctuary home from our very own frog experts\, David De Angelis and Emily Nimmo. \nPairs will then be allocated a site within the Sanctuary to record what species are present. No experience is necessary and you will get to see the Sanctuary at a time when it is usually closed to the public.\n\nThe data collected through this survey provides our staff with important information which can be used for future conservation planning and research projects.
