Join the English Conversation Club and keep up your English language skills while studying at home!
It’s also a great opportunity to meet some other La Trobe students. We meet via Zoom on Wednesdays from 12-1 p.m. Melbourne time and will continue right through the assessment period and Winter Semester.
So how does it work?
It’s easy! After some general introductions, you’ll be put into a room with another student or two to practice your conversation skills. You can use the questions given to guide you, or you can talk about a different topic – it’s up to you. After 15 minutes, it’s round 2 and we’ll put you in another Zoom room so that you can meet someone new. There are 3 to 4 rounds per session.
Check out what some of our regular attendees have to say:
“While I can understand almost everything, it is sometimes difficult to find the right words to answer spontaneously. Speaking to native speakers as well as other international students about stuff like sports or music doesn’t really feel like learning but helps me to talk about unknown topics more fluently.”
“In times of COVID-19 it is also a good distraction from self-isolation and nice to see new faces. I really enjoy talking to students from different nationalities and learn about their culture and everyday life.”
“You can either chat about the given topic of the week or just talk about things like your quarantine life, holidays or the latest Netflix recommendations. If you have questions about vocabulary, expressions or pronunciation the native speakers can give you advice directly. If you want to practice your English and have a chat with different people, just give it a go!”
“The English Conversation Club helped me to connect with the other ESL students, have fun while practicing informal English speaking. I want to thank our host Kate for making me feel welcome and comfortable.
“I joined the club in April and I eagerly anticipate the forthcoming meetings because of the relaxed and fun ambiance”.
Ok, so how do I join?
