Have you thought about volunteering at La Trobe University?
We are searching for the next batch of student leaders with a passion for giving back to their community whilst also adding to their CVs.
La Trobe’s official volunteering programs span three categories – host, mentor and partner – and all can be done online.
Examples in each include:
Host: La Trobe Host program; International Student Association volunteer; La Trobe Student Union or Association volunteer
Mentor: In2Science outreach program; ASSC and SHE college peer mentor programs, ‘Students Mentoring Staff’ program
Partner: Student Advisory Groups (School or College level) Student Partners Program
In fact, if you’re a part of one program from each of the above categories, you’ll also be recognised on your academic transcript as a ‘La Trobe Emerging Leader’ and receive a letter of recognition from the university for your valuable contribution!
In Semester 1, 2020, 39 students completed the program.
By volunteering you’ll also building up real-world experiences that can help you develop professional skills and showcase to employers your commitment to your community.
Mark Conforti, a Master of Education (Secondary) student, reflected: “The Emerging Leaders program provided an opportunity to make friends and help new students navigate Uni. The activities I got involved in provided practical real-world experiences and will surely help in becoming job-ready.”
Dentistry student Yukti Arya also noted: “It was great being connected to the community in such a variety of ways and I really appreciate the opportunity to be part of something bigger than myself. It was also an easy to way to recognised for all my efforts in helping the local environment.”
