Where to find your results

Once your results are released, we’ll send an email to your student email address to let you know they’re ready.

To access your results in StudentOnLine, you can either:   

• Click on the ‘My Study’ tile and view your results under your course on the ‘Academic History’ page; or
• Visit the ‘My Studies Summary’ in ‘My Summaries’, select your course and view your results in the ‘Subject and results details’ section.

In some cases, results may become visible earlier than the release date. If you check your results early and don’t see all your results, please be patient. There’s no need for you to contact ASK La Trobe or Student IT Support, your results will be released by the published results release date.

Note that your results may be amended after initial release, especially in the case of withheld or missing results.

If you’re waiting for results from a different study period, check our results release page or academic calendar for dates.

Why can’t I see my grade in StudentOnLine?

Unpaid fees are the most common reason you may not see your grade. Check if you have any fee sanctions by going to the ‘My Details’ tile in StudentOnLine, then go to ‘Sanctions’ in the menu on the left-hand side. Check out our FAQ for more info.

What to do if things don’t go as planned with your results

Let’s be real, things don’t always go as planned. You might not get the results you wanted on your assignment, and that can be disappointing.

If this is you, take some time to put together a plan to make sure you’re taking care of yourself. Here are our top strategies for how to handle failure or disappointment at results time.

If you failed a subject, read our Failing a subject – next steps FAQ.

• If the subject is a pre-requisite for another subject, you will still need to pass it before being able to progress to the follow-on subject (i.e. you will need to repeat it if you do not pass).
• If it’s an elective, you might choose to complete the same subject again or another subject worth the same amount of credit points.  

If you believe your results are incorrect you may request a review of your marks. Requests must be made within 10 working days of results publication.

To help you achieve your best, both academically and personally, La Trobe has a number of support services available, like:  

• study support services, including the Learning Hubs   
• academic support resources and workshops, covering themes like time management and tips for successful study habits  
• wellbeing services, including counselling.    

Calculate your WAM

La Trobe uses a Weighted Average Mark (WAM) calculation instead of a Grade Point Average (GPA). A WAM is an average mark that takes into account the credit point value of the subjects that you have completed. Learn how to calculate your WAM here.

Assessment Adjustments

Sometimes life throws unexpected challenges your way, and we get it. If something affects your ability to complete an assessment, you can apply for an Assessment Adjustment – including extensions, Special Consideration or exam adjustments.

Submit your request via the Assessment Adjustment StudentOnLine form. If you apply for a Short Extension of Time by 11:59 pm on your assessment due date, you’ll automatically receive a 3-day extension (no documentation required).

It’s an easy thing to overlook when you’re studying, but if you have face-to-face or supervised online exams this Semester, having your student ID card with you on the day is really important.

Why does it matter?

It’s University policy that students sitting face-to-face or supervised online exams must display their student ID for the duration of their exam.

Displaying a valid student ID is the quickest way we can ensure the person sitting the exam is really you. It protects the security of your academic record and ensures the integrity of our exams.

How do I order a student ID card?

Ordering a student ID card is easy. All you need to do is snap a clear, passport quality photo of yourself, and order your card online.

When your photo is approved, you’ll receive an email to your student email address (not your personal email). Your card will then be ready to collect from your campus 3-5 working days, or 5-7 working days during peak times.

You’ll need to bring government-issued photo ID when you collect your card, such as a passport or Australian driver’s license.

What if I don’t have my student ID card in time for my exam?

If you haven’t been able to order and collect your student ID card before your exam, don’t stress. Simply make sure you bring some form of government-issued photo ID on the day. Suitable photo ID includes: 

• Passport
• Australian driver’s license
• Proof of age card
• Marine license
• Working with Children Check

The eCAF is an online form used by domestic students to apply for a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) and/or Higher Education Loan Program (HELP) loan. Submitting your eCAF is a crucial step to secure your enrolment.  

You only need to submit it once and it covers you for the duration of your course. 

Why do I need to submit an eCAF? 

An eCAF is a formal agreement between you and the Government that you must complete to accept your CSP and / or HELP loan. If you don’t submit an eCAF form, your CSP offer and / or HELP loan request is not valid. 

This means you won’t be eligible to access Commonwealth support (including a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) or HELP loan) for your current teaching period.  

Not submitting an eCAF by your first Census may result in your enrolment being cancelled, or you may be required to pay full fees up front to continue your course. 

If you are enrolled in a CSP and choose to pay your tuition upfront, you are still required to submit an eCAF to secure your CSP 

What do I need to do? 

You will need to complete at least two forms to fully submit your eCAF. To submit, you must first complete a form in StudentOnLine, before completing a form in the eCAF Government portal. 

Please note, after you have submitted your first form, it may take up to 24 hours for you to receive access to the Government portal, so we recommend you allow enough time to successfully complete BOTH forms before your first Census date. 

To access Commonwealth support, including a CSP and/or HELP loan, submit your eCAF before your first subject Census date by following the instructions in our FAQ: Request for Government Assistance forms/electronic Commonwealth Assistance Forms (eCAF)

Who can use the chatbot?

Everyone! Charlie is open for everyone to use and can assist you with answers to common questions. You will need to log in to Charlie to get access to more customised information or connect with LiveChat to speak to an ASK La Trobe team member.

How do I log in?

Use your username (student id) and password if you are prompted to log in to the chatbot. You can use Charlie without logging in but remember, you won’t be able to access LiveChat without logging in.

How do I use Charlie chatbot?

Your query can be just three to six keywords and doesn’t need to be phrased as a question. If Charlie doesn’t give you the answer you’re looking for, try one or two different keywords or ask your question a different way.
