This year marks a significant milestone, celebrating 50 years of NAIDOC Week. For five decades, the week has honoured and elevated First Nations voices, cultures and resilience, while providing all Australians with the opportunity to participate in events, deepen their understanding and celebrate the world’s oldest continuing living cultures.

The 2026 NAIDOC Week theme, 50 Years of Deadly, celebrates the strength, leadership and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples over the past five decades, while looking ahead to the future. The theme recognises the Elders, organisers, artists, activists and communities whose leadership has shaped NAIDOC into a powerful platform for truth-telling, cultural celebration and community pride. It also acknowledges the next chapter of NAIDOC will continue to be led by First Nations communities.

NAIDOC Week is a time to embrace Indigenous Australians’ cultural knowledge and understanding of Country as part of our national heritage; to listen, learn, and engage in meaningful dialogue; and to help foster a society where the contributions of Indigenous people are fully valued and respected.

At La Trobe, we remain committed to advancing reconciliation through education, research and meaningful partnerships with First Nations communities. We will continue to implement our Indigenous Strategy, support our Gabra Biik, Wurruwila Wutja Indigenous Research Centre, and work alongside our Elders Council to strengthen Indigenous leadership and outcomes across the University.

A list of events being held around the country is available on the official NAIDOC Week website. The University will also present events across our campuses during Indigenous Week at La Trobe in August. Details will be announced soon.

Results for Semester 1 2026 will be released on Wednesday 1 July 2026.

Where to find your results

Once your results are released, we’ll send an email to your student email address to let you know they’re ready.

To access your results in StudentOnLine, you can either:   

• Click on the ‘My Study’ tile and view your results under your course on the ‘Academic History’ page; or
• Visit the ‘My Studies Summary’ in ‘My Summaries’, select your course and view your results in the ‘Subject and results details’ section.

In some cases, results may become visible earlier than the release date. If you check your results early and don’t see all your results, please be patient. There’s no need for you to contact ASK La Trobe or Student IT Support, your results will be released by the published results release date.

Note that your results may be amended after initial release, especially in the case of withheld or missing results.

If you’re waiting for results from a different study period, check our results release page or academic calendar for dates.

Why can’t I see my grade in StudentOnLine?

Unpaid fees are the most common reason you may not see your grade. Check if you have any fee sanctions by going to the ‘My Details’ tile in StudentOnLine, then go to ‘Sanctions’ in the menu on the left-hand side. Check out our FAQ for more info.

If you’re continuing studies, now’s a good time to check that you’re correctly enrolled!

What to do if things don’t go as planned with your results

Let’s be real, things don’t always go as planned. You might not get the results you wanted on your assignment, and that can be disappointing.

If this is you, take some time to put together a plan to make sure you’re taking care of yourself. Here are our top strategies for how to handle failure or disappointment at results time.

If you failed a subject, read our Failing a subject – next steps FAQ.

• If the subject is a pre-requisite for another subject, you will still need to pass it before being able to progress to the follow-on subject (i.e. you will need to repeat it if you do not pass).
• If it’s an elective, you might choose to complete the same subject again or another subject worth the same amount of credit points.  

If you believe your results are incorrect you may request a review of your marks. Requests must be made within 10 working days of results publication.

Support available

To help you achieve your best, both academically and personally, La Trobe has a number of support services available, like:  

• study support services, including the Learning Hubs   
• academic support resources and workshops, covering themes like time management and tips for successful study habits  
• wellbeing services, including counselling.    

Calculate your WAM

La Trobe uses a Weighted Average Mark (WAM) calculation instead of a Grade Point Average (GPA). A WAM is an average mark that takes into account the credit point value of the subjects that you have completed. Learn how to calculate your WAM here.

We are excited to announce the funded projects for 2026 and are thrilled by the range and creativity of ideas aimed at enhancing the student experience at La Trobe.

The funded projects reflect a strong focus on peer connection, belonging, employability, wellbeing and hands-on learning. A sincere thank you to all students who submitted applications!

Funded projects for 2026

ChemKrew creating connection through chemistry

ChemKrew: Connecting Chemistry Students Through Peer Learning, Careers Insight and Community, led by Henry Bellette, will support a student-led chemistry community focused on building academic confidence and peer connection.

The project will deliver free exam revision trivia nights and a student-focused Chemistry Careers Fair to help undergraduate and postgraduate students connect, develop career awareness and feel supported throughout their studies.

Equity-focused support for HDR students

Led by Juanita Low, the Student-led, Equity-focused Program for HDR Students at LASEM will enhance onboarding and support for new Higher Degree by Research students at the La Trobe Sports and Exercise Medicine Research Centre.

Through student-led social and cultural initiatives, the project aims to foster belonging, ease the transition into research study and provide targeted support for students from low- and middle-income countries.

A fresh start for The Patch

The Patch Revamp, led by Orla Weaver, will revitalise the campus garden into a thriving student-run veggie and herb space.

Focused on wellbeing, sustainability and food security, the project will create opportunities for students to share skills, contribute creatively and access free healthy produce in an inclusive and welcoming environment.

Students interested in getting involved will soon be able to participate in the project’s first working bee as The Patch begins its transformation.

Celebrating engagement and employability in SCEMS

Led by Akshad Shelar, the SCEMS Engagement & Employability Celebration will pilot a new student-led event recognising the many ways students contribute to the School of Computing, Engineering and Mathematical Sciences beyond academic achievement.

The hybrid celebration will feature awards, lightning talks, networking opportunities and industry and alumni engagement, with a focus on leadership, innovation and community contribution.

Hands-on learning through Pipettes and Platters

Pipettes and Platters, led by Jesse Schilling, will combine practical laboratory skill development with peer connection and discussion.

The student-led workshop will give science and education students hands-on experience in transferable lab techniques, including aseptic practice, agar work and plant tissue culture, before concluding with a relaxed networking and Q&A session.

Real-world experience through Cyber Clinic Day

Led by Mary George and Adam Mardiryan, La Trobe Cyber Clinic Day will provide cybersecurity students with supervised, real-world experience supporting small businesses and not-for-profit organisations.

Working in teams, students will assess cyber hygiene challenges and deliver practical recommendations, helping strengthen cyber resilience in the local community while building employability and industry experience.

Looking ahead to 2026

The Student Experience Grants continue to empower students to shape the La Trobe experience through innovative, student-led initiatives that strengthen connection and community across the University.

Updates on the funded projects will be shared throughout 2026 as the initiatives progress and begin making an impact across the La Trobe community.

Depending on your circumstances and course there are several supports available. If you’re feeling the impact, we may be able to support you with financial bursaries and scholarships to ease financial pressures. For students who are currently on, or about to begin placement for your studies, we are increasing our support as we recognise that placements for students can add pressure and uncertainty at this time.

If you’re unsure where to start, Student Advising or Wellbeing Services can help point you in the right direction and provide advice about your study options as you approach Census date.

La Trobe is continuing to monitor the rising cost of living and may make additional services available.

At La Trobe, our access scholarships and bursaries support domestic coursework students from all backgrounds to reach their potential at university.

Applications will be open on Monday 4 May 2026 and will close on 11:59pm, Sunday 28 June 2026.

La Trobe scholarships are valued at up to $5,000 per year and bursaries are typically a once off payment of $1,000.

Semester 2 scholarships and bursaries will be available for:

• Commencing undergraduate Bachelor degree students
• Commencing and current students who meet criteria for educational disadvantage
• Students with a regional residential address
• Students experiencing financial hardship and enrolled in:
  • Bachelor of Business or Bachelor of Accounting

The University is now calling for nominations for the election of a postgraduate student to the La Trobe University Council. The term of appointment will be from 29 May 2026 to 31 December 2026.

This election follows the work of the Expert Council on University Governance, established by the Australian Government to review governance standards across public universities. Its Final Report and Principles (released in late 2025) emphasise strengthened accountability, transparency, diversity of perspectives and meaningful engagement with staff and students in institutional decision making.

The La Trobe University Council has considered these Principles and is strongly supportive of their intent. In line with this, Council has resolved to expand its membership to enhance staff and student representation.

Staff membership will increase from two positions (including the Chair of Academic Board) to three (to include both an academic and professional staff member), and student membership will increase from one elected position to two (to include both an undergraduate and a postgraduate student). These changes will bring staff and student representation (excluding the Vice-Chancellor) to nearly 30% of total Council membership, representing a significant step in strengthening their voice in university governance.

As the currently elected student on the University Council for 2026 is an undergraduate student, there will now be an election for a postgraduate student for the remainder of 2026.

What is the University Council?

The University Council is the governing body of La Trobe and looks after the general direction and monitoring of the University. Its responsibilities include:

• Appointing and monitoring the performance of the Vice-Chancellor
• Approving the Uni’s mission and strategic direction, annual budget and business plan
• Monitoring risk
• Overseeing academic activity
• Approving significant University commercial activities

Council members include our Chancellor, the Hon. John Brumby AO, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Theo Farrell, government appointees, La Trobe staff and student members.

So what does it take to be a student member?

Firstly, don’t worry if you haven’t been involved in student politics before. It’s not a prerequisite.

Ask yourself: Have you been on a student advisory group? Perhaps you’re a Peer Learning Advisor with a finger on the pulse of the student population? Maybe you’re an engaged student at a regional campus who wants to make sure the voices of your peers are heard? These are all relevant perspectives to bring to Council.

What is the role of the student member?

On the University Council elected members don’t represent the constituencies from which they are drawn. All members are required by law to act in the interests of the University, rather than as delegates for a particular section of the La Trobe community).

Your role would be to bring a student perspective to the University Council.

How do I nominate?

If you are interested in nominating for Council, you need to read the information on the Council website and complete the online nomination form by 12pm on Wednesday 29 April 2026.

Further information

Full details of student eligibility to nominate, the nomination process and other relevant information to help guide your decision can be found on the Council Elections webpage.

You Said, We Did is how we show you that we’re listening and taking real action based on what you’ve told us.

Ready to see your feedback in action? Here are four changes we’ve made recently. You can also head to the You Said, We Did page to see more ways your voice has shaped the La Trobe experience. 

You said: You weren’t always sure how to get help to feel safe on campus and wanted more options to access on-campus support.

We did: We launched the UniSafe app and our plan to respond to the National Code for Gender Based Violence, including new programs and workshops. 

The UniSafe app launched at the Melbourne (Bundoora) campus to help you get around safely after dark. Available between 6pm and 6am, the app lets you book someone from the Security team to accompany you on foot or via vehicle. UniSafe has already supported you with more than 4,800 escorted trips this year! 

You said: You want more opportunities to connect with other students, collaborate in your course and feel part of the La Trobe community.

We did: We expanded opportunities for students to connect and collaborate through initiatives such as the Student Council, student‑led clubs and activities and Student Experience Grants that support peer connection, belonging and student‑led projects. 

In 2025, we launched our Student Experience Grants, awarding more than $25,000 to student‑led projects that improved the student experience. These grants empowered students like you to turn ideas into reality – creating new spaces to belong, practical tools to support learning and events that helped students to connect with each other and industry. Learn more about last year’s recipients and how their projects have made an impact. 

We also continued to support connection through the Student Council and student‑led clubs and activities. There are now 80 affiliated student clubs across our campuses, which helped to organise more than 700 activities over 2025 – creating more ways to meet people, get involved and feel part of the La Trobe community. 

You said: You want access to health, wellbeing and support services that fit around your study and life commitments.

We did: We introduced outside standard hours counselling appointments and expanded ASK La Trobe service hours during busy periods, so that there’s more support available when you need it most. Whether you’re juggling classes, work or personal responsibilities, we know life doesn’t always fit neatly into business hours and we’re here to support you. 

You can now book free counselling appointments outside standard hours, with later sessions and flexible options that let you connect in the way that works best for you.  

We also extended ASK La Trobe service hours during peak times, so help is available when demand is highest – from enrolment and fees to timetables and results, we’re here to help. 

You said: Starting uni and knowing where to find the right information felt overwhelming and confusing. 

We did: We rebuilt the New to La Trobe website and launched the New Student Guide to make starting at La Trobe clearer, simpler and easier to navigate, working closely with students to make sure it covers what matters most when you’re new to La Trobe.  

The New to La Trobe website puts all the essential information in one place, with clear steps, key dates and support options to ensure you feel prepared, connected and ready to make the most of your uni experience. We  

We’ve also created the New Student Guide – your step‑by‑step guide to everything you need to know in your first study period. From Orientation and first classes to exams and final assessments, it’s there to help you start strong and stay on track. Even if you’re not a new student, it’s a handy guide you can come back to whenever you need a reset or reminder.
