We are expanding our existing services to support you with your studies. For students who are currently on, or about to begin placement for your studies, we are increasing our support as we recognise that placements for students can add pressure and uncertainty at this time.

Financial and academic support 
Depending on your circumstances and course there are several supports available. If you’re feeling the impact, we may be able to support you with financial bursaries and scholarships to ease financial pressures. 

If you’re unsure where to start, Student Advising or Wellbeing Services can help point you in the right direction and provide advice about your study options as you approach Census date.

La Trobe is continuing to monitor the rising cost of living and may make additional services available.

This is a difficult period, and you are not expected to manage it on your own. Please reach out and make use of the support available to you—we are here to help.

Applications for internal course transfers are open now! Applications will close 28 June 2026.

Please note that some course transfer applications need to be made via VTAC and some courses have special conditions.

Please also be aware that submitting an internal course transfer application does not guarantee a place in a different course, or that you will receive credit for previous study.

Your internal course transfer application will begin to be assessed after results have been released. You should also allow for processing time after the results release.

The Expert Council on University Governance was established by the Australian Government to examine governance standards across Australia’s public universities and to develop a set of principles that reflect contemporary best practice. The Final Report and Principles, released in late 2025, focus on strengthening accountability, transparency, diversity of perspectives and engagement with staff and students at the highest levels of university decision making.

Council has carefully considered the Principles and how they apply in the context of La Trobe University. We are strongly supportive of their intent to strengthen accountability, transparency and the diversity of perspectives at the highest level of university governance.

At our meeting earlier this month, Council agreed, among other measures, to expand its student and staff membership on Council from two staff (including the Chair of Academic Board) to three, and from one elected student position to two.  This will uplift the proportion of staff and student representatives (excluding the Vice-Chancellor) to almost 30 per cent of our overall membership, and represents an important step in strengthening staff and student voice in University decision making. Elections for these additional positions will take place next month, and further information about the process will be shared shortly.

Council has also agreed to publish a short summary of key decisions and outcomes within one week of each Council meeting. This will provide greater visibility of Council’s work and priorities. The first of these summaries, from Council’s meeting on Monday 2 March 2026, is now available on our website.

These changes form part of Council’s broader program of work to align with best practice‑ governance principles and to continue fostering trust, transparency and engagement across our University community.

Spanning an entire wall, the huge artwork is the latest addition to Bendigo’s evolving street art landscape. True to PHIBS’ signature style, the mural features dynamic movement and vibrant colour. It features local wildlife including the grey kangaroo, at home on our Flora Hill campus, and the flying fox. , a much-loved resident of the Bendigo CBD.  

The mural also showcases Emporium Creative Hub as a space for artistic experimentation, collaboration and creative expression, while contributing to Bendigo’s growing reputation as a regional centre for street art and culture.

Be sure to take a walk down Mitchell Lane and see it up close.

The Club House is a flexible, welcoming event and social space located in the Agora at our Melbourne (Bundoora) campus where all students can connect, engage and unwind through sport, culture, health and creativity.

The Club House is proudly backed by Medibank, whose support helps us bring meaningful health and wellbeing initiatives to life for our student community. Thanks to them, we’ve created a space that puts your wellbeing front and centre.

As well as being open at particular times during the week for anyone to pop by, you can request to book the space for anything from club meetings to events via the online form.

Want to gain valuable insights into your health in just 5 minutes? The Medibank SiSU Health Station is available whenever the doors are open. This self-service machine is a quick, easy and confidential way to understand your risk factors for cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes.

Prioritise your wellbeing 24/7 with Medibank

As well as supporting the Club House, Medibank offers La Trobe students discounts across their insurance range, including pet, life and travel insurance. It’s just another way you can put your wellbeing first.

Parking options

Option 1: Permit parking (aka vPermits)

• vPermits are virtual parking permits that can be purchased and managed online.
• You can purchase annual or half-yearly permits.

Option 2: Casual parking

If you prefer to pay by the day or hour, there’s two options:

• CellOPark Pay-As-You-Go (PAYG): download the CellOPark app and only pay for the time you park.
• Pay-by-Plate parking meters: use your vehicle registration and pay by cash (coins only) or credit card at the machine in selected carparks.

Visit Transport Central to find out more about the permit and casual parking options, as well as other sustainable transport options for getting to campus, like cycling, public transport and carpooling.

Parking fees

Visit our Car Parking page and select your campus to learn more about the different permit and casual parking fee options.

Remember, you’ll need to pay for parking at the Melbourne and Bendigo Campuses from Monday to Friday, 8am–5pm. Outside of these hours, parking is free.

Parking fees do not apply at the Albury-Wodonga, Mildura and Shepparton campuses.

Staying safe when parking

When parking at any of our campuses (or anywhere else!) it’s important to take a few simple steps to help protect your vehicle and belongings. Most thefts from cars are opportunistic, so a little awareness can go a long way.

Here are some easy ways to stay safe:

• Lock up – always double-check that your doors and windows are locked before walking off, even if you’re only stepping away for a few minutes.
• Keep valuables out of sight – store bags, laptops and other personal items in the boot or take them with you.
• Victoria Police also have extra tips for preventing theft from vehicles.

Our on-campus security team regularly patrol car parks and other areas of the University, as well as monitoring CCTV and ensuring all car parks and walking paths are well-lit. If you ever need help, call La Trobe Emergency on (03) 9479 2222 (available 24/7) or La Trobe Security on (03) 9479 8888.

Need a hand getting around after dark?

The Uni-Safe service is available at our Melbourne (Bundoora), Bendigo and Albury-Wodonga campuses. Security officers can walk with you after dark between buildings, car parks and on-campus accommodation.

At our Melbourne (Bundoora) campus, they can also help with pick-ups and drop-offs to Reservoir or Macleod station, or to the 86 tram on Plenty Road.

We want to ensure all students are aware of the support available as bushfires continue to affect communities across Victoria and New South Wales. This remains a fast‑changing situation, and we know that some members of our La Trobe community have been directly impacted. We also acknowledge the many staff and students who are volunteering their time to support affected communities.

Our thoughts are with all communities affected by these devastating bushfires. Your safety and wellbeing remain our highest priority. Please continue to monitor emergency advice and be aware that conditions can change quickly.

Student support and services

• Financial support: Emergency Aid Payments have been temporarily increased to $500 for impacted students and applications will be fast-tracked to ensure you receive support as soon as possible.  To apply, please submit a disaster relief bursary application form via our website. 
• Special Consideration: The  application processes for Special Consideration for impacted students has been streamlined to require only a personal statement that outlines your situation.
• Health and Wellbeing: Our Health and Wellbeing team are providing prioritised support to students who are affected by bushfires.
  
  • Appointments with a counsellor can be made by emailing counselling@latrobe.edu.au or calling 03 9479 2956 during business hours.
  • For 24/7 mental health and wellbeing support outside of normal University hours, students can access services for free by calling 1300 146 307 or texting 0488 884 100. 
  • Students can also contact 1800 RESPECT for 24/7 telephone counselling, information and support if they have experienced, or are at risk of, family and domestic violence and/or sexual assault.

We encourage students to contact one of our Student Advisors if they have any particular concerns or support needs. Our Advisors can provide further advice, support and connection to University services. 

Emergency information and health resources

• Remember to check the VicEmergency and NSW Rural Fire Service websites and apps regularly, monitor your surrounding conditions and be prepared to act on instructions issued by emergency services or the University. 
• Be aware of the air quality in your area and take precautions if necessary for your health. You can check for updates at EPA Airwatch.
• The Victorian Government’s free service Nurse on Call (1300 60 60 24) offers qualified nursing staff for professional health advice 24 hours a day. 
• The Department of Health website contains information on extreme heat and advice on practical tips to protect yourself and others, including staying well hydrated.  

Campus access and placements

All La Trobe campuses remain open and available as a resource for students, staff and the community.

If you are completing clinical placements or work‑based learning in regional Victoria, please contact your subject coordinator to discuss appropriate arrangements based on your circumstances.

Emergency accommodation

Emergency student accommodation may be available for any students and their families who have been displaced from their homes. Please contact Living at La Trobe Accommodation Services to discuss via phone on +61 3 9479 1071 or email at living@latrobe.edu.au.  

Fieldwork safety assessment  

To ensure the safety of our students in the ever-changing fire-risk environment, teams scheduled for fieldwork within Australia are required to review and re-submit a fieldwork safety assessment that reflects the changed conditions, in accordance with the Health and Safety Procedure – Fieldwork Safety.   

For regions where a Catastrophic fire-danger rating has been issued, students must not travel into any affected areas. This includes driving between campuses or research field trips.  

How you can help  

You may be looking for ways you can practically support impacted communities. The best way is to donate to the Victorian Government’s 2026 Victorian Bushfire Appeal. You can find out more or make a donation on their website.
