A Day In The Life: “I’m just not that into you”

“Sorry, I’m just really not that into you. I’ve tried my hardest but it’s just not working out. We aren’t right for each other.”

Despite what you may think, this isn’t a blog about a break-up. This blog post is all about how to conquer that ONE subject that is a total struggle.

We have all been there, and evidently come out the other side of a particular dreaded subject. We all have different strengths, passions and struggles. Even in a classroom of like-minded people, we all find each subject very different.

Personally, if you put anything with numbers in front of me- I’M OUT! But other people dread the thought of writing an essay.

You’ve missed the census date (not that you had a choice, it’s a core subject), you’ve submitted what you would call ‘your worst work, ever’ and you’ve still got 6 more weeks and copious assignments to go.

I think I speak for every student, ever, when I say there is NOTHING worse than sitting in a classroom feeling like you’re the only one who has no idea what is going on.

The content, the assignments, the teacher or the entire subject itself, there can be a million reasons to why the subject and you, simply don’t mix. But, at the end of the day, there are just some things in life that you have to power through.

Below are some things to remember to help you power through the last 6 weeks of semester:

  • Power in numbers- So cliché, so over-used, but SO helpful. You’re not the only person in the class who has cried over this assignment, team up.
  • Just do it- The sooner it’s done, the sooner you can move on and focus on the subjects that don’t give you a headache. Allocate yourself an hour or two where you purely focus on the subject, that way you don’t find yourself neglecting your other subjects.
  • Ask- This doesn’t need any further explanation. The staff at La Trobe are always willing to help.
  • It’ll you stronger in the long run – Once you hit the submit button on that final assignment, it will all be worth it. You may not appreciate it just yet, but powering through a hard subject will benefit you in the long run- I promise!

In just a few short weeks you’ll feel a sigh of relief and not have to worry about it again, so make sure you try and take away as much as you possibly can from this subject- you got this!
