What are our academics saying?
In 2015 the School of Allied Health, Human Services and Sport offered its first subjects in the fully online Bachelor of Food and Nutrition. Course Coordinator, Dr Adrienne Forsyth, was excited to see such a high uptake of subjects in the course, “we introduced the first subject at the end of August 2015 and we had received over 3000 enrolments into open access subjects by mid 2016. We are now able to reach students who want to study at La Trobe but are unable to attend on campus, and this has been highly rewarding for myself and the team.”
What are the benefits to students?
Online learning provides greater flexibility for students to engage when they want (daytime, evenings, weekends), where they want (home, workplace, on the move) and how they want (accelerated or part time). Courses, subjects and modules are industry relevant and our innovative offerings enhance career progression and life-wide learning. Students are fully supported via high quality and reliable technology that can be accessed on any digital device.
What are our students saying?
In 2014, Lauren, a Bachelor of Food and Nutrition student, began her learning journey at La Trobe in Bundoora. She undertook her first year studying an undergraduate Bachelor of Health Sciences. When Lauren’s home life changed, this meant working longer hours and she had less time to study. She wanted to pursue food and nutrition science and jumped at the opportunity for flexible study when the course became available through La Trobe Online.
“The ability to work as many hours as I need to is what I appreciate most when studying online.” Lauren says “Learning online takes the financial stresses away because I can continue to work. I usually work a lot of hours across two jobs.”
Lauren’s advice to anyone thinking about undertaking online study? “Don’t be afraid to reach out to fellow students or academics; it is important to keep lines of communication open while studying.”
