Owen Warlond Director Project Design and Delivery

Owen Warlond has been working in the construction industry for over 25 years having graduated from Deakin University with a Bachelor of Architecture in 1991.

Throughout his architectural career, Owen worked in a variety of firms; leading and delivering projects in a diverse range of sectors including tertiary, retail, health, justice and residential. One of Owen’s more challenging projects as an architect was the design and construction of $100m expansion of the Knox Shopping Centre in a live operational environment. To successfully deliver this project Owen worked on site for the entire 12 month construction duration in collaboration with the Builder, expanding is construction knowledge exponentially.

His journey eventually lead him into Project Management, where Owen delivered projects for Defence, the State Government, several Universities, Kangan Batman TAFE – Automotive Centre for Excellence and a number of specialist & bespoke projects. Due to its inherent project diversity, Owen’s most enjoyable and challenging sector was the tertiary sector, which led Owen to joined La Trobe University. Owen commenced in 2013 as a Project Director, was then the Senior Manager, Projects and since 2017 has led the Project Design & Delivery unit as Director. Responsibilities of the team include the delivery of Major, Capital Works and Minor Works Projects that constitute approximately 70% of the annual I&O Capital Plan. The majority of these projects involve the development of new buildings (LTU Sports Park, Bundoora Student Accommodation) & refurbishment of existing spaces & buildings. The team also manage space management and the Feasibility (Works Request) process.
