As academic leaders in agriculture, La Trobe University is proud to partner with Global Table. Global Table's mission reflects our ambitions for La Trobe as a University city of the future: to provide a gateway for community participation, innovation in agribioscience, and opportunities to live, learn, work, socialise and stay healthy.

La Trobe academics joined Global Table’s inaugural three-day summit in September 2019 to discuss solutions to today's food systems worldwide.  Over 3,000 people attended the event from 29 countries, making the event the largest of its kind in the Asia-Pacific region.

Secretary John F. Kerry opened the event on Tuesday 3 September with a rousing keynote, followed by Dr Howard-Yana Shapiro of Mars Incorporated and Shama Sukul Lee of Sunfed on the following days. They were joined by more than 200 speakers from Australia and the world, including La Trobe University Professors Tony Bacic, Jim Whelan and Craig Patch who shared their expertise on the biggest questions facing the food and agricultural sectors in 2019.

In the Innovation Precinct, an edible bug vending machine, robotics in retail, traceability solutions and VR were on show, as 60 startups took advantage of the chance to put cutting-edge solutions in front of influential investors and decision-makers.

The event ended on a high with the presentation of 12 awards to standout innovations and ideas, as well as the announcement of the winners of the on-site pitch competitions.
