Course Description

The Master of Business Analytics is a specialised degree that aims to equip students with the relevant data analytics and business skills to solve the complex problems of modern businesses. The course is multi-disciplinary, drawing upon knowledge and skills in business, statistics, computer science, and soft personal skills such as communication and critical thinking. The course will cover foundation and advanced business analytics by using state of the art industry tools to show case the application of the knowledge and skills in practice. The course will also have a strong industry presence to ensure that students are kept abreast of the latest development in this field.

Minimum entry requirements

The minimum entry requirement is successful completion of an Australian Bachelor degree (or its equivalent). Prior learning developed through relevant work experience or professional accreditation, where it is deemed to be at least equivalent to that obtained through a Bachelor degree, may be considered. In making an offer to an applicant, the University will give consideration to a range of factors to determine whether an applicant has demonstrated the capacity to work at a Masters level, including academic record, English proficiency, and/or employment experience.

Minimum advanced standing requirements

Applicants with demonstrated prior learning in the form of an Australian Bachelor's degree, or a degree determined to be equivalent by La Trobe University, and have relevant work experience in a business or data-related role may be eligible to apply for advanced standing. The subjects granted advanced standing will be determined by the academic assessor and on a case by case basis. In making an offer of advanced standing to an applicant, the University may give consideration to a range of factors including English proficiency, academic record and/or employment experience. Applicants with demonstrated prior learning may be able to apply for advanced standing for BUS5BIM, BUS5SBF, BUS5SMM and BUS5IAF.

Degree requirements

The Master of Business Analytics is a two-year full-time program (or its part-time equivalent), studied in English, requiring the successful completion of 240 credit points of study. The program comprises coursework and may include a minor thesis if students elect to complete a specialization using the four electives within the course. The aim of this course is to provide training of business analytics professionals as profiled by IAPA (Institute of Analytics Professionals of Australia).

Course structure

  • All subjects are worth 15 credit points.
  • The subjects are listed in the preferred order of study. You must complete all prerequisite subjects prior to enrolling in a core or elective subject.
  • This degree is designed to be completed within two years of full-time study or part-time equivalent for non-cognate students.
