'Asian Studies in Focus' Seminar Series - Seminar # 5
Divya Rama Gopalakrishnan, PhD Candidate, University of Melbourne
Dr Ruth Gamble, Senior Lecturer and DECRA Fellow, Archaeology and History, La Trobe University
Is India rewriting its own history? Recent trends in Indian politics have seen the rise of anti-history programs with the agenda of rewriting India's past - in particular a move to ban the teaching of an entire period of India's medieval history in which the Mughals were in charge.
In this seminar Ruth Gamble and Divya Rama Gopalakrishnan will discuss why this historical period is important to Indian history and why the Indian government is trying to ban its teaching and research.
