In this seminar, Luc will outline to us some of the work of the End-of-Life Care Research Group, which conducts high-quality scientific research in end-of-life care in Belgium and across Europe. A feature of the Group’s work is the way their research is based in large-scale population studies, ensuring the relevance of their findings for both policy and practice. Around 40 researchers from different scientific backgrounds use a common research structure to facilitate interdisciplinary collaborative research.
The Group is spearheaded by a number of experienced researchers who mentor junior researchers in order to expand future expertise in end-of-life care research. They aim to achieve maximum dissemination of their research findings through scientific publications, conferences, professional organizations and the popular media. The work undertaken by the Group contributes to improving medical training and education, end-of-life care practice and organization, and political and institutional policy.
Luc Deliens, is Director of the End-of-Life Care Research Group, Vrije Universiteit Brussels & Ghent University, in Belgium (www.endoflifecare.be). He is the founding chair of the International Collaborative on End-of-Life Care Research (ICER), and Co-Chair of the European Association for Palliative Care research network (EAPC RN).
