Many people have found themselves moving their work and social lives online in 2020. We've all acquired a new pandemic vocabulary, and learnt to navigate new online etiquette. In this one-hour discussion (online, of course), Lawrie Zion sits down with lexicographer and emoji expert Jane Solomon, and gesture and emoji researcher Lauren Gawne to talk about the changing world of online communication. The discussion will cover the new words of COVID, the use of emoji in online communication, and the linguistic reasons that zoom meetings are so much more effort than face-to-face catch ups. We will also have a Q&A with questions from the audience.
