This live-stream online workshop, presented by The Bouverie Centre, introduces and explores concepts and techniques of the narrative approach to working with clients who have experienced trauma. You will have the opportunity to practice these approaches in a supportive environment. Prior knowledge of Narrative Therapy is recommended but not required.
Suitable for
Therapists, counsellors and health and community workers who are working to help families and family members recover from trauma.
Course Benefits
On completion of this course, you will be able to describe and begin to apply the narrative therapy techniques of:
- 'Double listening' i.e. simultaneously listening for both the effects of trauma and the client's responses to trauma
- 'Externalising' the effects of trauma
- Eliciting and highlighting people's responses to trauma
- Building the person's preferred story with their responses
- Using their responses to restore from the trauma's effects their sense of self & identity
