This month speakers consider two key aspects of the NDIS – Local Area Coordinators and Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT) decisions. We are also trialing a new location in the library seminar room and engaging a wider audience.
3:00 pm - Amanda Pagan, Principal Fellow for Inclusive Communities & Colleagues from Brotherhood of St Laurence on:
Local Area Coordination (LAC), planning and where the community fits in
This talk will briefly touch on the history and design of LAC prior to the existence of the NDIS and how things have changed since the Productivity Commission originally envisaged the LAC within the NDIS. It will closely examine some of the benefits and costs of including planning for participants into the design of LAC. It will also consider ways LAC could be strengthened to bring together the valuable knowledge gained during the planning stage with the assets of communities to increase broader inclusion and generate systemic change.
4:00 pm - Dr Darren O'Donovan - La Trobe Law School on:
An update on NDIS appeals decided by the Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT)
This presentation will update attendees on recent NDIS appeals decided by the AAT. It will discuss how the Tribunal has begun to tackle the issue of delay in resolving appeals. Attendees will also get an accessible rundown on new Tribunal decisions relating to transport funding, the NDIS/healthcare boundary and carers. This session will foreshadow the launch of the NDIS Digest - an accessible summary of AAT decisions produced by the Living with Disability Centre in collaboration with the Brotherhood of St Laurence.
