Speaker Profiles

Dr Kerrie Punshon
Kerrie is a Special Needs Dentist working in Melbourne. She started working in Special Needs Dentistry in 1987 and obtained her Fellowship in Special Needs Dentistry from RACDS in 2002. Kerrie gained Specialist Recognition in 2005 when Special Needs Dentistry first became a Specialty in the state of Victoria in Australia. She teaches in University of Melbourne DClinDent (Special Needs) Post graduate program, and lecture in Special Needs Dentistry to students at both Melbourne and La Trobe University BOH. Kerrie currently works as a Specialist in Special Needs Dentistry at the Royal Dental Hospital of Melbourne and in Specialist Special Needs Dentistry Private Practice.

Dr Terry Wong
Terry obtained his Dental degree at Melbourne University in 1987. He maintains a general practice in Melbourne with emphasis on restorative dentistry. He has been an attendee at the Las Vegas Institute and has completed the occlusion course at the Kois centre in Seattle. Presently he lectures at Melbourne University to undergraduates on the topic of Aesthetic Dentistry and since 2004 has conducted hands-on programs for several Dental companies on free-handed delivery of composite restorations.

Dr Melinda Newnham
Melinda completed her undergraduate dental training (BDSc) in Western Australia (1995), specialist training in periodontics in Melbourne (2006), awarded the ANZAP medallion (2007) and gained fellowship into the Academy of Dentistry International (ADI) in 2017. Throughout her professional career, Melinda has enjoyed presenting lectures to undergraduate dental and hygiene students, Australian Dental Council (ADC) examination candidates, general dentists, postgraduate periodontics students and periodontists. Current positions include: consultant periodontist at the Alfred Hospital, private practice in Moonee Ponds and is the immediate past president of the Australian Society of Periodontology (Victorian branch).

Dr Margarita Silva
Dr Silva was the first registered paediatric dentist in Victoria and has been involved in teaching paediatric dentistry at the University of Melbourne since 1984. She graduated in dentistry with Honours from the Technological University of Mexico then practised as a general dentist for two years before undertaking her Master of Science at the University of Minnesota in Paediatric Dentistry. She taught postgraduate students at the University of Monterrey, Mexico and at Louisiana State University in the USA.

Dr Thomas Lo
Thomas graduated from the University of Melbourne with a Bachelor of Dental Science degree in 2005, after which he practiced as a general dentist for four years. Looking for a further challenge and exciting career change, Dr Lo was accepted into the Doctor of Clinical Dentistry postgraduate program at the University of Melbourne and graduated in 2012. He is a visiting lecturer to the Melbourne Dental School of the University of Melbourne as well as a tutor at Latrobe University Dental School.
