Future Landscapes for People and Nature

The 'Future Landscapes for People and Nature' symposium featured 11 leading thinkers and practitioners and was attended by over 130 academics, natural resource managers, local and state government agency staff and community members. Each speaker highlighted major drivers and emerging trends in land use change, and the implications of these changes for nature and human communities.

Speakers covered a variety of topics, including environmental history, indigenous perspectives, climate change resilience, fire, peri-urban expansion, production agriculture, Landcare, environmental enterprises, threatened species, environmental law and engaging the community.
A highlight was the speed talks delivered by four La Trobe early career researchers – Dr Jen Wood, Alicia Dimovski, Cara Sambell, Simon Verdon – which were enthusiastically received by the audience.
