Saidin Salkic was born in Srebrenica, Bosnia, the town of the greatest genocide in Europe since WWII. There his family experienced years of fear then tragedy, when Serbian forces executed Salkic’s father, after which they attempted to rebuild their lives amid the despair and disorientation of camps. Since migrating to Australia in 2001, Salkic has emerged as a poet, filmmaker, songwriter and painter of note and substance. His work has featured widely, most recently at Adelaide Film Festival.

Waiting for Sevdah is a 41 minute poetic self-portrait. Set in suburban Melbourne, the film has been described as “transcendental” and “sublime”.

Silence’s Crescendo is a 40 minute experimental horror film. It has been described as a cross between Grandieux’s La vie nouvelle and Lynch’s Eraserhead, “terrifying” and “a unique experience.”

The films will be followed with a Q and A with Filmmaker Saidin Salkic.
