Join artist Richard Lewer as he introduces his Blake Prize-winning artwork, Worse luck I am still here. This touching animation tells the tragic true story of a suicide pact between 81-year-old Bernie and the love of his life, Julie. Lewer inserts himself into the story as he handles the drawings and narrates in a manner that is simultaneously empathetic and matter of fact.
Originally from New Zealand, Lewer has been working in Australia since 1997. He is known for his video and animation, paintings, and delicate drawings which evocatively rework some of life’s less pleasant elements – crime scenes, illness, horror movies and extreme events.
Join the artist in conversation following the screening.
Richard Lewer is represented by Sullivan+Strumpf, Sydney and Singapore; and Hugo Michell Gallery, Adelaide. richardlewer.com
