Caring during COVID‐19
A gendered analysis of Australian university responses to managing remote working and caring responsibilities
Meredith Nash is an Associate Professor of Sociology in the School of Social Sciences and Deputy Chair of the University Equity Committee at the University of Tasmania. She was Deputy Director of the Institute for the Study of Social Change (2017-2020).
Her sociological research is innovative and multi-dimensional and she has contributed to her fields of expertise by identifying the depth and enduring character of social inequalities in Australia.
Associate Professor Nash is widely recognised as an international expert on gender equity and she has published 45+ peer reviewed papers in international journals on topics of diversity, equity, and inclusion. For example, her research group has led the field in developing numerous ground-breaking projects focused on women’s reproductive health and parenthood, the prevention of sexual and gender harassment in remote polar fieldwork settings, designing intersectional leadership programs for women, building inclusive workplaces, evaluating institutional gender equity programs, encouraging male allyship, and developing inclusive health care for LGBTIQ+ people.
Her research excellence and commitment to social inclusion has been recognised via appointments to key national committees and through international visiting scholar appointments, and keynote/speaking invitations. Meredith’s research has been highlighted 200+ times in the media (e.g. television, radio, documentaries, and podcasts) shaping national and global conversations on pressing social issues. She has developed her external organisational awareness as a Board Member of Women’s Health Tasmania and in her work as a certified organisational coach and diversity and inclusion consultant.
