Join LAI and Interwoven Master Weavers for the Woven Dialogue Book Launch.
In 2018 members from the Dja Dja Wurrung Clan and Aboriginal weavers from the Peppimenarti community in the Northern Territory came together to collaborate over a Woven Dialogue. The weavers from different regions explored, discussed and exchanged knowledge associated with the traditional practice of weaving.
The intention was to share knowledge and skills and to produce a collaborative woven work. The outcome however, was something quite different. It was not only grasses and fibres that were woven together – dialects too were intertwined and new common words were formed.
The resulting posters, originally displayed at Phee Broadway for Castlemaine State Festival and exhibited again now on the facade of LAI, depict the coming together of cultures through woven language. The posters are brought together with stories and images of the woven dialogue project and beautifully presented in a limited print publication.*
*Books will be on sale for $20 - cash purchases only.
Light refreshments provided.
