The situation with COVID-19 continues to change at a rapid pace. It is posing unprecedented challenges for the health and wellbeing of our communities and for the continuing operations of La Trobe University. Events over the weekend and earlier this week have necessitated a rapid review of the University’s response – in particular the ban on large scale events, compulsory self-isolation for all visitors to Australia, and the Premier’s announcement of a State of Emergency.
La Trobe is therefore announcing a range of measures to help members of our community remain as safe as possible, while ensuring minimal disruption to teaching and research activities. Our campuses will remain open and our teaching and research will continue, but with some significant changes to the way we work. As a precautionary measure, from Tuesday 17 March onwards all non-essential events that do not involve delivery or support of teaching or research activity will be cancelled or postponed until the end of June, regardless of the number of participants. This includes events such as graduation ceremonies; public lectures and events; events run by all Student Union Associations and student clubs and societies; sporting events and planned ceremonies.
As a result of this decision, the 'Autumn Cycling Classic 2020' event on 18 April 2020 is now cancelled. We thank you for your understanding and hope you will be able to join us at another La Trobe event in the future. All ticket holders will be refunded.
If you have any questions in relation to this event please do not hesitate to contact University Events at firstname.lastname@example.org

After an astounding response to the Autumn Cycling Classic event in 2018 and 2019, we are proud to announce this event will run again in 2020. La Trobe University and Brunswick Cycling Club will again be providing a fantastic venue right in Melbourne - scenic 3k course, fully closed roads, coached introductory sessions, great facilities with food and coffee, event village with atmosphere - this is how to integrate cycling into the city.
This year, due to the new accommodation building under construction, the course has undertaken a detour and has been reversed. This course will now take in the sights of the new accommodation building, the existing student residences and Simpson Lawn.
Please note, due to the event there will be road closures between 7am-2pm.
What is the Come & Try?
The Come & Try is an opportunity for those interested in racing to have a go. We know there are a lot of recreational riders doing fondos, Zwift, Beach Rd who may want to try their hand but are unsure what racing is all about. This is under the supervision of certified coaches and marshals who will give participants a flavour for racing and under the safety of closed roads.
Entry is free for La Trobe Staff and Students and registration can be completed here.
The first twenty La Trobe Students or Staff to register will go into the draw to win a free Team La Trobe cycling jersey and other Team La Trobe clothing!
For members of the public, entry is $10 and can be purchased online. No race license is required, but you do need a functioning road bike.
