'Asian Studies in Focus' Seminar Series - Seminar # 4
Dr Emma Dalton – Lecturer in Japanese, Department of Languages and Cultures, La Trobe University
In this seminar, I examine the substantive representation of women at the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) by analysing remarks made by women from three women-friendly political parties (the Tokyo-ites First Party, the Japanese Communist Party and the Komeito) that referred to women’s issues and interests.
By comparing such remarks made in committees and council meetings between 2017 and 2021, I compare the way TMA members from three political parties articulate women’s interests. This will contribute to better understanding the substantive political representation of women.
